MP3 to audio book format?

Mar 3, 2011 11:47PM PST

Hi all, I have a Sony CD player that I use for audio books on tape/CD. But I want a smaller device when I travel. I understand that MP3 players will play audiobooks, but I'm not sure what brand I should buy that will play music & audio books.

Can you help me? Thanks.

2 choices and a half:

1) A small no-name MP3 player, or a more well-known Zen device, with playlists etc. I recommened Zen over iPod, because it does not convert the material to iPod format, so you can get it out, too.
2) One of those 6-7" tablets, for example Archos 7. The you can also read eBooks, listen to music, use Google maps, and browse web/newspapers. Both can be connected to good noise-canceling headphones, and off you go.
2 1/2) Use your phone, unless you receive lots of calls. A 4 GB card goes a long way. Make sure the audio connector is of correct type. Bluetooth works, too.

I have a prepaid Samsung T-mobile phone, I don't think it has that player capacity. Will check.

But I need just a small pocket device (not an IPod/Ipad, too expensive)....so you recommend "Zen"? I'll look into it. Any other brands?

MP3 audio books
Mar 8, 2011 4:52PM PST

Recently I got some MP3 audio books from a magazine CD. I wanted to upload them to my iPod so that I can listen to them during my compute to office. But then I found that these were in MP3 format and not in iPod audio book format.

Hi Chigal48. I know this is a bit off topic, but I wanted to reply to your post in "Help! the Ink costs are killing me", but for some inexplicable reason, that thread is locked. I also noticed that you don't accept PMs. If you're interested, PM me or just reply here.

MP3 for audiobook
Mar 18, 2011 5:13AM PDT

I bought a Sony Walkman MP3 player (discounted from eBay) and love it. It holds a good charge (recharge on your computer), I can put about 40 unabridged audiobooks on it. It has it's own speaker, but I usually use it with headphones. I also connect it to my car speaker with a device purchased at Radioshack and I can't say enough good about it. I used to lug a heavy disk player and boxes of CD's too, but no more! It can also be used to view videos, movies, and tons of songs.
