mp3 player write protected

I have a sandisk 1gig flash mp3 player that was working properly, but now I cannot delete or modify files when it is connected to my computer (I am running xp, and its connected via USB 2.0) When I try to delete files I get a message something like disk is write protected please change protection, but I cannot find where in the flash drive to change. Please help.

When you open the "My Computer" Icon and you see the drive on the list, try right clicking on it and go to properties. Try to find a check box on the settings that un-writeprotects this drive. If you can try a re-format.
