Mp3 Player USB Problem

Dec 21, 2004 4:59AM PST

Ok, I bought the Motorola m25 and all has been well for about 2 days. I installed the program and Windows 98se recognized the new usb hardware and I chose the drivers off of the cd and everything fit nicely. Last night, it says that the device is an unknown device, and needed driver updating. When I try to install the drivers from the cd, it says that the file doesn't contain information about my hardware...but it does. I've tried removing the device from the profile and then reconnecting the usb cable to see if it would recognize it again, which it did, but still won't accept my drivers. If you guys have any idea what could've happened please assist. Thank you

...but you might try installing the newest firmware that is located at the link below. Make sure to completely uninstall the software from the Control Panel/Add-Remove Programs section and install per the instructions in the "Quickset Up Guide" and "User Guide" links a the same site.:

Digital Audio Player - m25 Downloads

Hope this helps.

Thanks, but

I've been to this site in my attempts to fix this problem. And the firmware doesn't install because my computer doesn't recognize the device as the m25, it is an unknown device...

So, Did You?

...follow the previous instructions? (Basically, you want to start from scratch.) First uninstall ALL of the previous "m25" software, unplug the device and the USB cable from the computer and the camera. Next restart the computer in "Safe Mode", then go to the Device Manager(RIGHT click on "My Computer", choose "Properties", then "Device Manager") and remove any indications of the device if it's still there.:

Now follow the instructions in the QuickSetup Guide to: Restart the computer, then power up the camera, THEN plug in the cable to the camera, then the computer's USB port. Windows should recognize the new hardware. Does it? If it doesn't, then open the Control Panel, double click on the "Add New Hardware" icon and see if Windows will recognize it that way.

Here are the instructions from the site I previously gave you:

Connect to the USB port

Before adding new tracks to your m25, you must first connect it to your computer: When connected to the USB cable, the m25 cannot play music.

1. Turn on the m25.
2. Connect the supplied USB cable to the USB port on the bottom of the m25.
3. Connect the other end of the USB cable to the USB port on your computer. If the Windows Device Driver Wizard is displayed after the USB cable has been plugged into both the m25 and your computer, please follow these steps:

1. Confirm the installation CD is in your computer?s CD-ROM drive.
2. Check the CD-ROM Drives box when the Windows Device
Driver Wizard requests the location of the m25 drivers.
3. Click Next and follow the Windows Device Driver Wizard instructions.

Hope this helps.

Sigh...

These have all been done. It recognizes it as an unknown device, and won't accept the correct drivers. When I choose to have it search my cd-rom, or specify the exact folder it is in on the cd-rom, it ignores it. And when I back up and choose my own driver, it says that the file has no information about my hardware. The m25 is an mp3 player that connects to usb via a mini-usb cable; the cable connects at the mp3 player and then again to the usb port. I suspect it is the cable that is faulty all of a sudden though. For the reason that I installed the software on my laptop (also running win9Cool and it recognized it as unknown and wouldn't accept the drivers just as it did on this computer. Although there was no trouble the first time I installed it all.

Jeremy, Yep, A Cable Is A Common Possibility

Try a new cable. We had a similar problem recently hooking up a camera with it's "included" USB cable.

Hope this helps.
