MP3 player running 24/7 any suggestions whichnon

Sep 2, 2005 6:48AM PDT

Hi, I want to use an MP3 player for music on hold because theoretically they will be more relilable than a CD player that has parts constantly in motion.

I will be repeating around 10 minutes of music at telephone quality so capacity is not an issue.

Since it will be on 24/7 it cannot run off it's battery.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to the most appropriate player?

Many thanks, Ian

Odd, isn't 5 years enough for a 20 buck unit?

You can get one at walmart for like 60$. They run off of a AAA. So you could just have a couple of rechargeable ones and run it all the time.

MP3 player for phone system

I just got an ipod shuffle for that same purpose. I got the 512 MB one and got a Belkin A/C adaptor power supply so that it will have continuous power. Have it in the system for three days so far and it is working great. I have to get a Radio Shack audio jack adaptor to convert the mini phone jack for the ipod from stereo to mono beacause that is what my phone system uses.

I will be installing it in a datacentre 45 minutes away from the office and need something reliable.

I have used CD players for this previously. Anything from regular decks through to super heavy duty (and expensive) professional grade units and it is pretty hit and miss what will last. Hence my drive to look at MP3 - no moving parts.

Don't get a HD based player...you will end up with moving parts...I have an RCA Lyra, it comes a part easily, so with a soder gun and 1.5-2 volt power supply from radio shack you should be all set.
