mp3 flash player firmware update & format problem

Oct 18, 2005 5:10PM PDT

Hi,
I have an unnamed 1GB mp3 flash player, that came with a small CD for updating the firmware. The CD installed a program named "Sigmatel MSCN Audio Player", for updating the firmware and formatting the player.
When I ran this program, it showed me that there was a newer firmware version, so I updated the firmware & formatted the player using that program.
As a result, my mp3 player flash size was reduced to 512MB. Any idea what I can do to gain back the 1GB?

Also, the player does not support switching between folders. I was hoping that the firmware update would add support for this.

Thanks a lot for your time!
Shlomy

How?
Oct 28, 2005 10:22PM PDT

I have formatted the flash player at the same time that I updated the firmware, using the Sigmatel MSCN Audio Player program. This formatting actually caused the problem.
What is the right way to format it? I know that formatting it incorrectly may cause the player to stop working at all.

I have the same problem....

Hi,

I have the same problem and i don?t know how to solve it. Maybe the format program version we used is the problem. it may be for an older version of player and the correct sigmatel program version may fix it. Anyway if you find a solution, please let me known. If i find the solution i?ll tell you.

Reformat to fat32
Nov 2, 2005 3:16AM PST

a flash MP3 player is seen by your PC as a drive.
When you format, it defaults to fat file system.
If your drive is larger than 512mb, you need to use fat32.
Right click on the drive letter and click format, change to fat32, and do a quick format.
Install your firmware, and you should have at least 900mb for music.

I already done this and doesn?t work...

Hello,

Thanks but the solution isn?t that simple. I already tried format using windows (in explorer and in administrative tools too), i tried many possibilities, i even tried to change cluster size and it was all failure, i couldn?t change the disk size. Am i doing something wrong? I still think that i need the proper format software and firmware for this device (it?s a chinese 1gb with sigmatel chip). If anyone have a clue or knowns what is my mistake, please tell me.
thanks for help.
