Question

Mozilla Thunderbird slow!

Jun 21, 2012 7:21AM PDT

I am running Mozilla Thunderbird 13.0.1 on my laptop and also desk top. On the lap top, Win XP, SP3 it is very slow to access the emails, and sometimes hangs.

Desktop is no problem using the same router.

Any ideas what I can do to speed it up please?

Answer
Well, my old XP machine seems slow.

It's some 800 MHz, 512MB RAM and it is pretty slow. It's a HP R3000 laptop and nothing seems to make it go as fast as my new machine.

Maybe it's just made that way?

In other words, tell why you think it should be faster.

My computer is 1.86GHz, 2Gb ram and faster than my desk top.

It used to be OK on Thunderbird, but now runs slow. Other programs are unaffected.

So I think the problem is with Thunderbird not my computer, but thanks for your interest Bob.

Has it always been slow or

has this occurred recently?

If recently, any changes on this XP laptop you can think of? EG, Windows updates, anti-virus, or other software updates. Have you had any malware?

Thunderbird on my own Win 7 Desktop is at version 13.0.1 . Do you have the same versions on both machines?

Any add-ons in this Thunderbird? We might think that the same add-ons installed on the two TBs would behave the same, but XP is an older system now and we never know when software is going to become incompatible.

Do you use TB on both systems for the same email account? If so, are you syncing them in any way?
