Mozilla Firefox/Thunderbird

Jul 21, 2004 9:19PM PDT

HELP! I am running xp with sevice pack 2,I have been using Firefox0.92 for some time and found it to work really well. When Thunderbird 0.71 came out I downloaded +installed, all seemed ok.Now none of the hyperlinks will work,I cannot access help, release notes,or the Thunderbird site from the start page,in short I can send/receive mail but do little else. Is this me ? I am not an expert ,just a newbie homeuser.

You are not the first to note that. Uninstall both browsers and just put in the one you intend to use.

What happens?

Hello Bob, I have tried removing both browsers and all files /profiles in application data as per Mozilla site, reinstall firefox works as before, add Thunderbird poblem still exists.Tried again, this time just reinstalling
Thunderbird, problem still there ! Can't see what has happened to change things ,it was working so perfectly,
and have not changed any settings or added/removed any
other progs. I really wanted to use both together so as not to be in IE6/OE Express land with all the attendant problems. I saw comment on another site that "Thunderbird is c***P as it can't download /upload etc. This was not my experience as I was using the hyperlinks etc. on a daily basis then suddenly it stops working ,great shame as this is a great combination when working

That wasn't my suggestion. I suggested installing just the browser you wanted to use until they sort it out in the next version.

What you did was repeat the issue. I wouldn't expect it to be fixed by repeating what is apparently an issue.

Be sure to report it at bugzilla.

I run XP pro on a P3 but without the sp2 update. I don't think I'll be downloading that update because I suspect that Microsoft and it's head demon are again making their software as proprietary as possible by writing codes that make it hard to use applications not written by Microsoft. I am using Firefox and Mozilla on my XP machine with no gliches so far, however I have a sneeking suspicion that as soon as I download this "update" I fear that neither will work. Maybe I'm paranoid but it doesn't make sense that apps which ran just fine on XP before the update are now rendered practically useless according to the reviews some users are posting in various forums.

Hello again Bob,
I have found part of the answer to this problem. It may be a conflict with my system or a bug that will show up again elsewhere. While trying to access
visual zone from within the program I found that the links would not work, checking several other programs I found again that I could not access home pages from within the prog itself.Firefox works ok from my home page so it looked like an issue with defaults/permissions,
I looked at each browser ,checked for default settings which show correctly. Next went to Start-Set Prog access /custom. Everything looked ok but I found I could not reset anything for firefox, on clicking ok the utility starts to alter defaults then the box closes. Going back to firefox and opening the browser,
up came the message that firefox is not your default browser etc., having reset this I now have full use of firefox and have now reloaded thunderbird which works perfectly again! Sorry if this was long winded!
The defaults had been correctly set and everything worked ok for several weeks so what caused the problem I don't know.
