Question

Moving to iCloud - Do I really need iOS5 and Lion?

Mar 8, 2012 4:49AM PST

Hi,

So heres the situation. I have an iPhone 4, and a macbook running Snow Leopard.

My son has a 3GS, which I use to find out where he is using find my iphone.

Apple are continually forcing me to upgrade to iCloud, but do I REALLY need to upgrade the 3GS (to iOS5) and MacBook (from snow leopard to lion) to do this??!

Answer
Don't upgrade if you use Quicken

I am not an expert but upgraded for similar reasons (i.e. iCloud). One thing I want to warn you about in case you didn't know is that some software does NOT work on Lion. Make sure all your software will work on Lion before you upgrade. And make sure to back up your hard drive beforehand. I unknowingly upgraded and lost all access to my Quicken for Mac files. Had to reinstall Snow Leopard on my external hard drive in order to access my files. There are a few other things that won't work on Lion so make sure you check it out if you decide to go for the upgrade.

I don't see any reason not to unless your iPhone 3GS is jailbroken and unlocked.

Apple releases an upgrade so the users can have a better experience using their products

About your friend's crash issue, restoring usually does the fix unless it's a jailbroken device.

Other than that, I don't think you have anything to worry about

iCloud is a genius technology if you can really utilize it well.
