Moving lines on CRT Slim TX-R3080WH

by nycztech / October 10, 2009 7:57 AM PDT

CRT TV Samsung TX-R3080WH about 2 years old suddenly has moving lines. They sometimes are diagonal and seem to roll up and down. They will become more and more vertical and switch to the mirror diagonal getting narrower than the entire proces starts over. The behavior is unpredictable but constant. I've unplugged everything from the TV and even plugged the set into several different outlets on different circuits but the problem is still there so I'm convinced it's the TV. Any help on what this could be in the set itself?

nycztech,

It sounds like interference of some kind, but if you've tried different outlets, I'm not sure what it could be.

Thanks for your response. I'm wondering, since I live in an apartment building if it could be interference from another apartment. I haven't added anything new, but maybe another apartment did?

nycztech,

It could be, but it'd have to be quite a bit of EMI if that's the case. Maybe there's a power issue - in which case, a power conditioner (like an APC) might be the answer.

If you come across a solution, I'd love to hear what it was.

I've already swapped out the APC without any results. This has to be something in the set itself. The lines start out wide and get narrower as it warms up. They go into a fast roll which lasts about 3 seconds then they stop and the roll repeats. After the set is on for about 30 minutes they become less noticeable but they're always there.
I have another issue with this set which comes and goes. It will turn off and back on by itself. Some days worse than others every 15 minutes or so. I installed a small exhaust fan in the back of the cabinet it sits in and it stopped temporarily but it will still take off on it's own from time to time. This is my last Samsung anything. I have a Samsung LCD monitor which they thankfully replaced for me twice. I hardly ever shut my monitor off. Both times my wife shut it off at night and it would not turn back on. They did replace it free of charge both times cuz it came with a 3 year warranty but the CRT TV was 1 year. Besides, the 30" CRT TV is so huge and heavy I would not be able to send it back anyway. Thanks again.
