didn't the instructions say something about "consolidating" the library?
A process whereby all your music is copied into the iTunes library, the originals are left where they were, so that after the move all the music would already be inside the iTunes library.
What you appear to be saying is that you copied all your music into a folder and then moved them to the new machine.
Not quite what was instructed.
Do any of the tracks play when you point them at the correct music in the iTunes media folder?
Did you find those instructions on the Apple site or some other site?

Help! I have just got a new computer. I followed all the instructions to the letter to transfer my library. All music files in one folder all copied to itunes folder in new computer. Opened my library files and all 8000 songs appeared with an exclamation mark even though the itunes media location is correct. Why wont itunes point to my files now even though they are all in the folder C:\Users\Music\itunes\ iTunes Media
