Question

Moving folders after installation

Jul 2, 2015 12:11PM PDT

After installing a program or game, is it safe to change the folder name in the ProgramFiles(x86) dir.? For example, I have two games installed, both made by the same company, Sierra Ent. One is in a folder titled "Sierra" and one is in a folder titled "Sierra Entertainment." I want to group these. by moving the game folder out from Sierra and having them both in Sierra Entertainment folder. If i do this, and I want to uninstall the game later, will it be able to locate it under "Uninstall a program?" If i have moved the folder after installation, will it mess ANYTHING up, or am I safe to do this? Sorry if this is a stupid question

if you move you will break any registry and other connections. you can uninstall then reinstall within the folder.

Totall agree with renegade600. If you make the movement, you may find you cannot open or play these games anymore.

That's an easy no.

The days of moving folders like that ended around 1995.

If you can't uninstall you use the old fashioned manual uninstall or try Revo Uninstaller. But it's pretty easy to write this is a fine way to make a mess of things.
