Question

Moving contacts from Nokia to Lenovo worked, but only partly

Dec 19, 2014 12:13PM PST

I moved 835 contacts from an old Nokia to a Lenovo A269 (gingerbread 2.3), but only names and phone numbers are shown properly, the "Notes" fields were copied in gibberish (ie. birthdays, notes etc on Nokias) even though no special characters are included.

First I used this app, Import Contacts, https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.waxworlds.edam.importcontacts&hl=en
It didn't work.
Then I tried copying contacts from SD card.

My contacts were saved in individual vcf files, not one inclusive one, could that be an issue?
Or is this Notes field a known problem with Nokia?

I use the Notes field extensively. Given the number of contacts, I want to avoid having to manually enter "notes".

Unknown what this old Nokia was.

Some cell phone counters have a box/tool to do this for you. Have them try it.

It's a 3120 classic

Good phone for back then, 3G, good voice clarity, good battery...and it took about 20 drops over the years without skipping a beat Happy Let's try that with a new smartphone.

As you know from another post, I'm in China temporarily for an extended time. Not sure if they know about these tools here. I was curious since so many people migrated from Nokias to Android, if they had the same issue with the Notes field.

Only used PCs and Cellebrite boxes for this.

But you are asking me to predict the outcome. I've seen it work and then not.

Sorry but if those contacts are that precious, wouldn't they be on a backup (PC, cloud, other?) that we could use?

They are saved in my PC as vcf files

Individual vcf files, I didn't combine them into one.

What do you suggest?

I checked the Cellebrite page, both phones are supported.

So if the VCF is corrupt, the jig is up.

It looks like one of those old stories where makers didn't plan for folk to move contacts and such. Cellebrite tends to be at the shops where they move contacts and more for folk as a service. Sorry no, I think I was unclear. I can't predict the future.
