Question

Moving a hdd from windows 7 to 8

Feb 18, 2015 5:25AM PST

I have a few hard drives in my machine, I kept one with my music and pictures on it from my Windows 7 intallation and installed Windows 8 on an empty drive, all of the folders from my old install show up in Windows 8 but the entire user folder and subsequent libraries does not seem to be here. Ie all my photos documents music etc they must be in there as the hard drive is showing as almost full yet I can't see much in it?? Any help?

Sounds like the drive or folder was encrypted.

It sounds like it's time to check your backup copies.

There is a slim chance another OS can see it. Try some bootable no install Linux version. Since we are just exploring with a file browser, no Linux skills required.

You said "all of the folders from my old install show up in Windows 8 " usually all means all not some. you need to be clearer as to exactly what you are talking about.

another post about booting to a linux live disk is a good one.
