Movie Maker fails to play WMV that works with media player

I have WMV files that play fine on Windows Media Player. But when I load them onto Windows Live Movie Maker, they have an exclamation point and won't play

That's been a complaint for years.

Not much new going on here and I'll defer to prior discussions.

The most common workaround is to re-encode the video to what Movie Maker wants.
