Movie film

Hello, I would like to know if there are any good ways to digitize movie film like super-8 (8 mm). The commercial services are very expensive and I would like to learn how to do this myself if it is not too difficult.

transferring super 8 movies to digital

There are several video transfer devices available that are reasonable in cost, and allow the home user to trasfer all of his analog material to a digital format at home. Most operate on the princple of broadcasting your video image to a screen that then can be captured with you digital recording device (digital camera, digital video camera) You can even capture to an analog video camera, and transfer that to the computer if you have a video capture card in your computer with an analog input capability. Go to your local photo store and ask to see the devices they carry and recommend. Good ones can be had for less than $100 and that is a lot cheaper than the commercial transfer services if you have a large collection. The caveat: you need a working super 8mm projector, and or a 35mm slide projector to make the transfer.
