Question

Moved out, need a new Laptop setup

Apr 28, 2015 6:25AM PDT

Hello Guys Happy

Since i've moved to a new home (and i sold my old laptop for around 450€... ) i'm searching for a new PC setup

here's what i need to do :

-Watching movies ( at most 1080p)
-Browsing web with LOTS of open tabs
-spending some time writing on forums Wink
-some light gaming like Minecraft , TF2, Diablo 3 , Skyrim ( from low to medium details is acceptable, i wouldn't mind playing at higher detail level )

-would most likely use it just at home ( but i don't have space for a tower pc )
-screen quality is very important to me :
no strong flickering
no strong deviation from reference color ( i.e. DeltaE = 10 is a NONO )
no low quality TN panels
no low contrast screen
low light may be ok since i will use it alaways indoors ( most likely )

Here's what i'm thinking about :

solution number 1 :
since i have a 40" FHD brand new tv i might use it as a monitor , buy a nuc ( i need the case to be small.. and kinda silent ) of the broadwell generation and stick with hd5500 wich is said to have some decent graphic perrformance, i'd buy a wireless mouse and keyboard and use it while sitting on the couch

Solution number 2:
a traditional laptop with a dedicated graphic and a good screen (IPS), the downside would be a costly system compared to NUC, also i wouldn't most probably have an ssd unless i choose to buy it leading to even slower performance

Solution number 3:
HP x360 ( or other convertibles/ultrabook )with latest broadwell i5, would be great for having a tablet too and being able to use it easily on the couch but is the most costly setup and may not be worth it ( could buy a good laptop and a tablet instead ? ) also i got the feeling it would be a jack of all trades and master of none ( i.e. using a 13 inch screen for a long period may be a problem i guess )

solution number 4 :
Wait for Skylake to get a bump in performance and get a cheap convertible in the meanwhile ( using it as a mini pc connected to the TV )
but i'm fearing the graphic performance may be too low to even start the 2 games i need the most ( TF2 and minecraft )

the budget ranges from 200€ to around 900€ ( but just in case of a real bargain for money/perfect solution )

what solution would you choose? any other ideas?
