There is a piece of software available that will move tracks from the iPod to a PC/Mac.
Your problem is that the iPod is formatted for a Mac and the PC is unable to read that format. It works the other way around though.
Find someone with a Mac who would be willing to let you move your stuff over there temporarily.
Reformat the iPod, follow the instructions that came with it and be aware that ALL your settings and tracks will be lost, on the PC.
Connect it back to the Mac, download the tracks and you are back in business
Hope this helps

Hello,
when i got my ipod 3-4 yrs ago(i think i have 1st generation), 20gb, i set it up at school where i work on my mac. it worked great till last year when our tech dept decided not to backup to the server anyones itunes. thus i have lost the my home base for my ipod. i would like to take the songs from my ipod and establish it's home base on my home pc. i tried doing so but i get to the point where the ipod is not recognized and in order for it to be, i have to restore all factory settings thus loosing all that i have established. is there a way that it can be done without loosing the songs?
