Mouse woes

I recently bought a compaq presario V3228 AU Notebook. operating system is Win XP Pro. I have attached a usb mouse - Zippys. The mouse is erratic. Even when stationery the pointer moves on its own. It is very hard to point the curser at one point. Please help.

Sledge Hammer.

I got this spiffy new mouse that does that until I load it's driver. Since I don't like that I found the vice and sledge hammer then finished up with a dustpan and broom.
