Mouse questions

Aug 22, 2007 12:26PM PDT

Hello everyone,

I'm getting really sick of always having to clean my ball mouse and how it's always sticking and all that. I've decided it's time for a new one but I'm wondering what I should go for. What are the differences between ball, optical, laser and that new kind which has a mouse ball on top that you move with your finger and the main part of the most stays put? Don't put cost in as a factor, but what do people think is my best bet for a good mouse that will last a long time and will require minimal and preferably no input from me such as cleaning and all that. I'm thinking no ball mice, even the new kind with the ball on top since that will get dirty as well and will stick just like a normal ball mouse with the ball underneath. So I'm leaning towards an optical or a laser but I'm wondering which is better.

Just so that you know, I'm not a big gamer nor do I do video editing or anything like that that requires super precision, I'm just looking for something good quality. Is laser higher quality than optical?

Thanks for your help in advance,

Matt

Laser here.

I switched to logitech opticals years ago and gifted the ball mice to anyone that needed them. As we have new machines or a failed mouse we then get a laser mouse.

The logitechs seem to be quite nice. However we never install their software or drivers so you may read foul posts from those that install that.

I went out and bought an optical mouse, I was considering a laser but they're way more expensive and for the 20$ I paid for the optical, if it's a piece of junk, there's not much of a loss. If the optical doesn't work, I'll go for a laser but the optical is worlds better than the ball mice I used to work with so I'm happy for now.

Thanks again,

Matt
