Mouse Probem

Aug 25, 2006 11:35PM PDT

I have an HP Pavilion 753n, Win XP Home w/SP2, ZoneAlarmPro and NAV 2006. I have been using the HP Multimedia Internet Keyboard and HP Mouse with no problem up until about a month ago. It got to the point that my mouse would not open a folder with the double-click, and required two double-clicks to open it. I installed a new Logitech Cordless Desktop EX110 keyboard, mouse and receiver. Problem still existed. I returned that one and got the logitech Cordless Desktop LX300, same problem and then installed nother LX300 -no resolution. I now have a Microsoft Wireless Optical Desktop 4000 and still, three out of four times, I must double-click twice to open a folder on my Desktop. It works fine when single clicking on a link, but just can't open a folder without the two double-clicks. Obviously, it isn't a hardware problem but something amiss in my system. I've adjusted the speed of my double-clicks several times, but still cannot resolve the problem.

Also, in Quicken (check book) the wheel does not move the page up or down as it did before. It works fine in other programs. I'm at my wits end trying to find the problem, but about ready to give up and resolve my self to a life of double-double-clicking....

A Little bit Better
Aug 26, 2006 12:19AM PDT

Hi Bob, I have an old HP ball track corded mouse that I am trying. It works somewhat better, maybe 2 out of 4 successful tries instead of 1 our of 4.

I don't have an installation disk for this mouse, just re-booted and let the "found new hardware" process do it's thing.

You have solved many problems for me in the past, good luck on this one....

Bob, I went through the list of tips and the only ones I needed to change were to change the pointer scheme to 'none,' and to set pointer speed to midway. I tried twice to download the HPLOMOPT utility and my system crashed both times.

The good news is that everything seems to be working fine for now. Yesterday it was sometimes up and sometimes down, but today it is running fine - so far.

The only exception is that the vertical scroll feature still does not work in Quicken, but I can live with that and be happy with the other resolutions.

Thanks for your advice, now go give yourself a raise!
