Mouse pointer continually showing busy...

Aug 30, 2015 4:06AM PDT

Hi everybody. Looking for a little bit of help with my laptop.

Recently I upgraded to Windows 10 without any known issues. My machine has been running fine since then until the other day.
I was editing some photos in photoshop but after about 10 mins the system seemed to crash and the mouse was unresponsive. I couldn't get to the start menu or bring up the task manager etc so I had to shut it down by holding the power button. It did this about 5 times so I managed to run Avast from startup to see if I'd been infected with anything.
The following day it doesn't seem to be crashing but the pointer is showing as constantly busy until you hover onto an application. As soon as you go back to the desktop though it's shows the busy symbol.
Only thing I recently downloaded was Spy Doctor but I've uninstalled it now.
It was also trying to open a file that appeared to be linked to BitDefender but couldn't so I uninstalled that too.
Nothing seems to help and I can't understand why it's just begun out of the blue.

I'm not exactly an IT engineer but I would like to try solve it if anybody is willing and able to assist me.

Thanks, Chris.

What is Spy Doctor?

Google doesn't find it and I never heard of it. Suspect? These often install unwanted things.

As to BitDefender, did you uninstall all Antivirus then upgrade and then reinstall the AV? That's been a source of troubles along with folk not knowing about driver work. That is, it's a new OS so we may have to check with the machine's maker (not Microsoft) for drivers.

Er...

Not entirely because half way through swing something the system would just crash. Spy Doctor was an adware program that I've had on a number of other companies users without issue. Going to try resetting it but not happy about loosing all my applications. Will see if that sorts it out.

Did not advise to reset.

I'm guessing you are posting in a few forums. My advise was not a reset. Just the usual about removing AV during the upgrade to be sure it's not going to create problems. Also I noted that far too many expected Microsoft to get the drivers for them. As to my app comment that applies to machines like Dell, Tosh, Acer that have apps that control WiFi on/off, battery charging and more. These apps often need updating.

Again, Microsoft supplies the OS and not an end to end solution like Apple.
