Question

Mouse instability

Sep 16, 2015 8:36PM PDT

It's been the worst for the last couple weeks but started in June, right after Win10 installed it's icon on my computer. My mouse acts like someone takes ahold of it and won't allow me to move it; then it moves& the page goes clear to the bottom or top & the wheel won't work. I use chrome on Win7 & facebook & their games. I use ABP & Advanced System Care. It shows I don't have viruses or malware, so what needs to update for this to be fixed?
I have tried installing drivers for my Logitech mouse but it got even worse after that, shut down browser & tried to shut down whole computer when I moved the mouse. I've tried changing the rates in moving both mouse & wheel. I'm at a loss but I am wondering if I need to update something or if it's flash or what. All ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

Mine went instable just a few days ago.
Sep 17, 2015 7:01AM PDT

I popped in new batteries and it's working right again.

Sorry if that doesn't apply here but I only have what you wrote to work with. No model numbers, story about the mouse and when it got a new battery.

Mouse Instability, corded mouse

I'm using a corded mouse, batteries don't apply here, unless computer battery & I don't see how that would have anything to do with it.

This is a desktop computer, not laptop.

So just one mouse?

Time to try another.

Corded mice don't go bad as a rule.

Infrared mice don't go bad unless the led dies.

Just to exclude the most common cause (a defective mouse):
- does this mouse work on another PC?
- does a mouse that works on another PC work on this PC?

Answer
try cleaning the "eye" first
Sep 17, 2015 12:42PM PDT

Blow hard on it, use a straw if desired to increase the strength. If that doesn't work, Q-tip it with a bit of alcohol. If it keeps up after that, consider a new mouse. I just ordered two of these myself this week. Largest hand size they make, it's 5 inches long. Ordered my wife a wireless type, she prefers the smaller size "ambi" since she's a lefty. Seems both my mouse and keyboard started getting wonky about a month after warranty expired.

I never cleaned an optical mouse.

But i DID clean the those old roller mice. They really collected dirt.

Cleaned the eye

At first I thought that worked but then I got into facebook & it was doing the same thing. I think it's driver problems or something fighting each other but I don't know what..

Minnie MOUSE

Good day!

If any new hardware has been recently installed on the computer, remove it to help verify the new hardware is not causing a conflict with your existing mouse.

Otherwise, make your mouse clean.

I hope this will help you.

Nothing new installed

I haven't installed any new hardware. Wonder if installing Win 10 would fix it..

I can't think of a good reason that Win 10 would fix it.
Sep 18, 2015 6:02PM PDT

As others have said, you need to try another mouse that works on other computer(s). When you can buy cheap ones for as little as $4, this is the obvious next thing to try.

Good luck.

Mouse instability now
Sep 18, 2015 10:08PM PDT

I can't use it on another computer as I just took all mine for recycling as I did with all the mice I had laying around. The reason I think it's a driver or an update that needs to go in because of Win10 updates is that the same thing went on with the Win8 updates.
I was hoping someone else had the same problem & remembered which update it was that fixed the problem.
I have NVIDIA video card & sound card so I was thinking, maybe it was that, since I clicked Win10 & it told me NVIDIA GForce hasn't made their product compatible with Win10.

none of that would interfere
Sep 19, 2015 6:06PM PDT

unless it was an IRQ conflict and that just doesn't happen anymore, almost never. Don't do a lot of drastic software moves when it's easier to grab a cheap mouse and see who that does instead.

driver conflict, not irq
Sep 21, 2015 9:19PM PDT

Well, I tried Win10 & of course my computer crashed twice before I uninstalled it. The video card is not compatible & it says in my mouseware there is no ps2 mouse connected so I don't know how my mouse even works sometimes. I will check around for a Microsoft mouse as that's what it looks for.

I just bought my wife 2 mice
Sep 22, 2015 9:45PM PDT

both were the "ambidexterous" M325 Logitech wireless mice with the unifying receiver. She's a "Lefty". I was pleased to discover they worked out of the box on both XP and Linux Mint, no need to install the unifying software unless one adds a wireless keyboard later. If they are bought as a combo they are already keyed to each other. Seems both Linux and Windows loads it just like any other USB HID type device, and both seem to have inbuilt drivers for it. I didn't have to install drivers in XP, the USB drivers already in it were sufficient. I picked them up from a very busy EBay supplier located in California for under $11 each, free shipping, even for the special decorated ones like I bought her such as the Paisley and some flowered one. No battery was included, just mouse and receiver for each mouse. My wife is happy with it and retired the crappy corded mouse she hated which they issued her at work. Surprisingly her govt job computer didn't need their TI guy to load software, it automatically installed it, which surprised me knowing the policy restrictions they use on such govt computers. I tested the receiver into my KVM which is all USB and it worked OK there too, between my two home computers. Check some wireless mice out, maybe your PS2 mouse or the port on mobo has a problem. At least with USB you have more than one port.

Answer
90% better now
Sep 25, 2015 12:43PM PDT

Adobe finally updated both flash & shockwave! Now mouse behavior is 90% better than it was but other than buying a new computer, is the best I can hope for. Every time Windows updates, I wish they would leave those to old programs that don't want to change but they think everyone has to. I would still be with Windows 95 or 98, don't need any of this other kiddie stuff.
