Question

mouse has no effect on backgammon but it does in chess

May 27, 2012 1:34PM PDT

I can't play backgammon but chess works on same site.I use itsyourturn.com to play these games and never had this problem.I had updated my drivers today from slimdrivers and ran into no trouble until I tried to play backgammon. The mouse clicks do nothing when I try to select a pip to move, roll the dice and go to the previous move but the other options on the same page that don't deal with playing the game work. When i select a chess or lines of action game to play I have no problems and the games are all on the same site. Please help.I wouldn't know which of the drivers is responsible but if it is one of the ones i updated I suspect it would be the chipset that was installed.I restarted the computer a few times but that didn't help.I use firefox but I tried it with internet explorer and got the same problem. On internet explorer when I tried the mouse with one of the problem areas i saw a message on the bottom left of the screen saying 'error on page'.When i dbl clicked that it told me there was a syntax error and along with some other info it said line 9,char. 1. Thank you

Answer
I would try
May 27, 2012 10:22PM PDT

either a "roll back" of drivers or a System Restore back to when this worked.

If you updated chipset drivers I would recommend "roll back".

Why did you update drivers, were there any problems?

have to find file to roll back
May 28, 2012 12:56AM PDT

I tried to roll back the driver and got a message I got a message saying the software i'm trying to install has not passed windows logo testing to verify its combatability with windows xp and it recommends contacting the hardware vendor for software that has passed the testing.I clicked continue anyway and i got a mesage saying the file igfxsrvc.exe on intel(R) graphics media accelerator driver is needed.Type the path where the file is located and then click OK. c:\drivers\video was in the place to type the location so I clicked OK and it said it could not be found.I went to start>search and i couldn't find it that way either.Maybe i didn't do the search right.I typed in igfxsrvc in the space nest to the word desktop then clicked desktop.Thats when it said it couldn't be found.I also typed the file name in the space under desktop where it says file and clicked desktop with the same result.I might have to do a system restore.
I was having trouble with the sound and video synching like you would hear a door close the a second or more later you would see the door shut.I tried turning off the hardware accelerator but that didn't work. Also most of the time i tried a video call the camera and mic wouldn't connect. They did sometimes and even when they did connect it would usually freeze up after 15 seconds. This would happen on both my instant messenger services. The synching is OK for about 15 minutes after i turn the computer on then it starts going bad so It could be overheating.Anyway i downloaded slimdrivers since it had a cnet approval then ran a scan with it for possible updates.I installed the ones they said were outdated using that site(slimdrivers). Also i saw there are ways to fix a syntax error but the two i checked on I couldn't figure out how to do it.I needed some things i didn't have.Is there a free syntax error tool available for download?Thank you

more info on syntax error
May 28, 2012 5:31AM PDT

I noticed when I right click a clear space on the page then click view page source I can see whats on all the lines.Line 9 ofthe page says <NOSCRIPT>Javascript not available. <a href=/iyt.dll?t?i=103&id=1450>Click here</a> to fix this.</NOSCRIPT>
I tried clicking where it says click here to fix this but its not in blue letters so isn't clickable. This line 9 appeared identical
on all the game pages I tried it on even the chess and lines of action games and those two games I can play .All the line 9's look the same so why wouldn't i get the error message on the games that work?
Some more info about the 'error on page' said ia051_lib.js right under the words syntax error but it said those characters are in line 9. When I looked in the view page source I saw those characters but they were in line 10.That puzzles me.I hope someone reading this can make something of it.I don't want to try a system restore or reformat unless I have to.After installing the updates the computer seemed to be working better.

forgot to mention
May 28, 2012 5:44AM PDT

Someone did think its time for a repair shop.I only paid $111 for it on ebay 2 years ago.It was refurbished.I don't want to spend the money for repair.I'll keep the money for another computer if this one becomes unbearable. If i use the lowest quality video setting it works pretty well now but maybe i didn't have the computer on long enough to get real hot or whatever but it was on much more than 15 minutes. Thanks again.

system restore not working
May 29, 2012 8:09AM PDT

I tried my system restore and I got a message when it restarted that the computer can't be restored to the date I picked.I tried 4 other dates all dates before the driver downloads with the same result.I chose the bold faced system restore points.I thought maybe its the result of me getting a windows update today that said "this update cannot be removed from your computer".I ran an AVG full computer scan and no threats were found.I will also run malwarebytes to see if it detects anything that may have come from the slimdriver downloads.I think I might have to reinstall the operating system.I've gotten no reply about the syntax error.

Chrome works
May 31, 2012 3:49AM PDT

I installed the chrome browser and the game works on that.Thank you.The person who helped me from slimdrivers said it looks like the java plug-in is having trouble on my other 2 browsers(firefox and IE) I will post a separate post to deal with my system restore not working.I tried reinstalling firefox but that didn't help.just wanted to let you know what worked.

That's great

and good work in finding a workaround.

If it is Java as that other person suggested, you could try updating Java from the Control Panel and checking that the update is reflected in the Firefox add-on.

I installed the latest version of java
May 31, 2012 6:37AM PDT

I thought I installed the latest version of java from another browser before i had chrome and that didn't work.Bob from slimdrivers said java is built into the Chrome engine. It is still a puzzle why i can't use my other 2 browsers for the backgammon games. How do i check to see if my java is the latest version ?Does my version of java work on all browsers or are they separately installed for each browser which means i would have to check what version for each browser? Thanks

The best way
May 31, 2012 6:41AM PDT

is to check in the Java console in the Control Panel. The console has an Update tab.

Updating 'should' update all browsers. I can't say about Chrome as I didn't know Java was inbuilt.

Firefox > Addons will show your Java addon.

your welcome

I think it had to do with something about receiving the info in HTML only.I deleted the message so I can't be more specific but I think thats all it had to say except for what i already mentioned, to turn off the java script.
