I am using an Illusion PS2 mouse. I recently upgraded the system motherboard and processor as well as memory. However the web cam I had installed was not compatable and/or approved by windows. I noticed that my mouse would freeze up from time to time on a more regular basis so I uninstalled the webcam and all it's software as it caused a stop error problem.

There a now less mouse freezeups but it's still there. I have a music program which I believe to be a crack. Can this be the cause of the problem? I have read that having crack programs on a system can lead to system instability. Can that be the problem now.

I would surely like to have your assistance and i'm thanking you in advance for the same.

Mouse Freezing Problem

Hello Bob,

Thank you for your timeous reply. The contents thereof are duly noted. I like the part where you wrote "Tell more about your monthly maintenance of this beast". It's serious but you cracked me up.

I read both links and viewed the cleaning videos. I have always had a thing for cleaning all parts of
my beast (as you call it) Lol. I did it every two months. I have though, realised after reading the links that the
area in which I reside has become business oriented and with that, comes more dust.

Just about a month ago I upgraded the system with a new motherboard the reason being I was that a lot
of inconsistences began acurring with the system. I wrote a thread and you advised that I should have a thorough check done and/or consider buying a new computer. I had the check done and an upgrade was the end result. The heatsink fan slowed down so much that the system overheated.

I shall be doing the cleaning exercise every weekend from this one onwards.

Thanks again for your assistance. I shall post back to let you know the result.

That's good to read.

Sorry if I try to impart some humor here but without a few details I can't get a solid direction at times so I try the usual, the common issues I see today.

The fan slowing is quite normal after about a year so so know to swap that when we replace the heatsink compound which we do for a few reasons. Not only to be sure there are no voids but that it is not dried out and the heat sinks are mounted at all points. I've lost count of the number of times I find the heatsink hanging on by 3 out of 4 points or less.

After this we may check to see if the PSU is sized for the long haul. Again where we find a 400 Watt PSU because that's all the system needed. Think of your car at 120 MPH which it might do but for how long?

Finally we have the pests. I don't have a reason yet to move to software issues but if the machine is stable enough you can take Grif's advice for scans at http://forums.cnet.com/7726-6132_102-5098912.html?tag=posts;msg5099421
