Mouse Diabled

Nov 30, 2003 11:35AM PST

About a half-hous into browing the web this morning, and just after installing then activating "Microsoft Reader", my mouse decided to disable itself.

========================

* Generic ('Moebius' branded) PS2 Wheel Mouse.
* No separate software provided for mouse with purchase of new PC ~2 months ago.
* Attempted to unplug, restart, shutdown, plug in, restart... no change.
* Have looked in "Contol Panel > Mouse > Hardware" - no hardware listed.
* Have looked in "Control Panel > System > Device Manager" - No 'mouse', 'mice and other pointing deviced', or 'human interface device' listed.
* Have attempted "Add Hardware" - many dead ends, no mouse listed anywhere.

========================

Please help! So far I'm doing well with just the keyboard, but I am severely limited without my mouse.\

After discussion with a technical-minded friend, the conclusion was made that a very cheap generic PS2 mouse displaying these symptoms is nothing other than "dead".

So I went out and bought a Logitech optical mouse (not really all that expensive), and look forward to much more reliable 'mousing' for the rest of my computer days.
