mouse cursor jumps

by bill999 / November 10, 2006 10:25 PM PST

Perhaps you have seen this happen. I'm innocently using my Logitech optical mouse and the cursor jumps at warp speed to another part of the page with no warning. It stops there and I must return it to my place. This happens three of four times per session so it's not a huge problem. Is there a software fix, a cleaning tip or something else?

I sent one computer back because of this. Then I got an Acer and after a while it did the same thing... the cursor would randomly go somewhere else, highlight and delete text. I did as suggested at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;198062
and it worked!!

However, when my computer rebooted, I had no mouse at all. It was easy enough to put in a usb mouse and then I had a moving cursor. I downloaded a new driver and when installed, there was no longer a problem.

I am having that jumping problem and I am so sick of it. It happens randomly, and it is like the cursor jumps to wherever the arrow is. Drives me bonkers. I am going to start a support group.

if using a laptop?

I had this problem on my Toshiba laptop. A computer geek guy friend came to my rescue and "turned off" the touch mouse keypad. He said sometimes this interferes when you are using another mouse.
IT WORKED! no more roving mice. ;>)
