Mouse acting funny

Dec 7, 2005 1:55AM PST

This just started to happen with my mouse. After 5 minutes, sometimes longer this happens. I have Windows XP SP2 and Logitech MX700 mouse, but tried a new mouse and this happened (both connected to ps/2).

The mouse pointer freezes but the mouse still functions as normal with the pointer still frozen in place. The pointer, while frozen, does cycle between a pointer, a hand, a sideways H, and a double arrow when I try to move it around the screen. I can use it, because if I goto start the pointer won't move, but the start icon will operate.

Any thoughts.

Having the same trouble with my fathers computer. Did have a PS/2 logitech mouse with the symptoms, so went out and bought the USB Microsoft one we have now, but the symptoms remain after a fresh install of the mouse. My father thinks it's the motherboard overheating, but I'm not so sure. Any other suggestions that may help, I'm at my wits end!?
