Question

Motion Computing M1400 Connecting to TV

Oct 23, 2014 1:56AM PDT

I'm trying to hook up my Motion Computing M1400 tablet to my tv. When I go the the external display menu, I can use an adapter or converter box from the VGA out port on the tablet to go to my TV. All I get though is black and white screen that is flickering.

Under properties it seems like my only option for external display is Notebook or Monitor, there is no mention of TV. If the external display is not setup for TV, even with some kind of converter box would it display on my TV?

On my old PC I used it had a s-video out, and all I had to do was go to the settings, select TV and it worked perfectly. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks.

Is this that 2004 tablet?

VGA is going to be a problem on TVs since many only accept a very reduced number of video settings. You are mixing what looks to be a decade old system with a new TV that looks incompatible. That is, given your time with the tablet I think you would know it well enough to try all video settings.

So no, I don't expect it to work.

That's a bummer to hear, but it makes sense. Is it possible to upgrade the video card (correct me if I'm wrong), to something more suitable to connect to a tv, or are these older tablets very limited as far as upgrading? Thanks.

Try video settings the TV supports. It wasn't that long ago that "monitors" supported a wide variety of VGA signals. Today, there's little need to support them all.

Video settings

The options for video settings are pretty slim. It's either "notebook" or "monitor" for displays, and the screen resolution doesn't change anything. The refresh rate is 60 Hz, and I can't change it. Is there another setting I could try?

I have to take your word on this.

Try other computer monitors as those usually have more range in VGA signals.
