Motherboard Video Card Compatibility

by Amsarja / May 31, 2008 5:35 PM PDT

My motherboard is a Dell Dimension XPS Gen 2 with a Pentium 4 processor 3GHz and 2 GB RAM its specs can be found here:

and I was wondering if this video card was compatible with it,
EVGA 512-P3-N801-AR GeForce 8800 GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card, found here:

If not compatible could someone please tell me a similar video card or pretty close to it that I could install? Thanks in advance!

Your motherboard specs mention:

# Expansion Capability:
* 1 - AGP slot supporting 2x / 4x / 8x - 133 Mhz
* 4 - PCI

So you'll need eithter a AGP-card (that's rather old) or a PCI-card, not a PCI Express, let alone PCI Express 2.0. That just doesn't fit.

I'm afraid your choices in recent high-performance cards are rather limited or non-existant. Others will be able to tell you more, but you can of course start searching yourself already.
