it seems to me that the onboard sound card isn't completely disabled. you need to look in Device Manager to see if the only sound devices you can see are from the new sound card. the other thing is that i don't know if the new sound card's drivers are completely working. the kinds of things you describe can happen because of hardware conflicts too, although they aren't supposed to happen anymore.
Herb....
Ok this is very tricky. For some reason my computer has ben having problems with it sound ever since I can remember.
I decided to upgrade from onboard to an audigy2 zs.
Now my Bios lets me disable onboard midi, and gameport but nothing having to do with sound???. thats delema 1.
Now it seems my new card works great. The sound is clear at first and all the functions work properly, but then it goes bad.
Say i try playing a game of Ravenshield and no matter what it freezes, screeches, garbles up, especialy during gun fights or exchanging fire. Heck even while just standing its click, click, screech and freeze every other 5 seconds??
I'v talked to hundreds of people and nothing suggested seems to be helping. its almost like my motherboard burnt a socket or something or my bios isnt alowing currect access to something???
Some games work fine tho like Warcraft 3, but anything newer, or heavy on the proccessor has alot of trouble, and I would still get some probs.
Any suggestions?
Updated drivers. v/

Nothing running in background so thats not it. v/
Switched its pci slot and no improvement. v/
I'v hurd something about jumper cables but thats a little out of my league.
I'd like to add if I havent already thats my comp has always done this. Its just getting worse and worse.
