I have a Dell XPS 1170 that would not power up so I tried a new AC adapter. That didn't do the trick so I tried a new battery. The laptop fired up for about 30 minutes and then died when I unplugged the AC adapter. I then took it to the local computer guy who sent it in to have the power jack replaced. The repair shop said that they had replaced the power jack but that I needed a new motherboard! Does this sound right? I'll admit I haven't a clue about computers, but the fact that the computer worked with a new battery for a short while makes me wander.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks
