Motherboard fired?? Help!!

I own a Compaq CQ60-214DK laptop and I cracked the screen one day so I was using an external screen meanwhile I purchased a new screen. I had my buddy try to install it, he had everything connected and powered it on and the screen turn on but remained lit nothing showing up. He checked all the connections and noticed that the lcd was actually not for the laptop it was for a different model. He snapped the old one back in and now when on external screen nothing shows up but all the lights are on. I've done basic troubleshoot... ie reseating ram and power drain. Any help will be appreciated!! Thanks!!
