motherboard

can anyone tell me if this is a good motherboard/processor combo? i have no idea

asus a8n-sli deluxe and amd athlon 3800+

Ah, trying for a gamer machine. Yes, the AMD Athlon 64 3800 is compatible with the A8N SLI motherboard. If you are going to start out with the high end A8N-SLI, capable for hosting two high end video cards, then it may be wise to go even higher on the processor to the Athlon 64 4000 or Athlon FX55. Don't forget you will need a 600 Watt Power Supply (Enerman), and 1Gig of RAM like like Corsair, Kingston, or Muskin. If going all out then the 10,000 RPM Hard Drives.

AMD Prices as of Feb 14, 2005 (bulk):

FX 55 = $827
64/4000 = $643
64/3800 = $429

I'm not up on the prices for the ASUS A8N-SLI as they can vary from different retailers.

newegg's got the deluxe version of that model for basically $200. just looked at that earlier tonight...
