I have a Lenovo laptop running Windows 7. I started my computer this afternoon and once I signed in to Windows I noticed that a. the screen was much darker than usual and b. the task bar was now the classic Windows one. The power setting said I could not change it due to a RPC issue which Help said was likely due to a Group Policy. I ran Malwarebytes and it came up saying the cryptographic services were disabled, after a couple tries that seemed to stay on.
I began hunting around the internet (on my desktop) for ways to fix this. The sfc /scannow does not run. The services (Microsoft Management Console) starts and immediately crashes as does my AVG. I began realizing other things were broken as well - no audio, no wireless or wired network connections, etc. The screen is bright when it initially boots, but as soon as I start to type my password it darkens.
It seems almost all services in Windows crash or give an error message (msconfig and explorer being the obvious exceptions) but so far all third-party programs except AVG seem to work normally (without an internet connection).
I expect I will need to reinstall Windows, but I was just wondering (hoping) if anyone has any suggestions to try beforehand. I forget if this computer came with a back-up CD, but if it did it is in storage a few thousand kilometers away.
Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly
Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
