I've often thought they should send a probe to Mars, let it fly around the warmer equatorial zone, inject seed capsules to the surface, and let it start to terraform the Martian landscape, along with seeds from various alpine plants, and maybe some dandelions, both of which are quite good at spreading their seeds everywhere, by air, and in case of tumblewees, by rolling all over depositing seeds. Later, high altitude tree seeds, sowed in same manner.
Note that a Western film set in or before Civil War should not have tumbleweeds in any shot. That requires 'tumbleweed wranglers' (local teenagers for instance) to clear them. I don't know if any producers have bothered.
I was told in a college course that it's one of the most allergenic plants going. My wife and I didn't need convincing. My goats love 'em, green or dry.
You can imagine how they contribute to a brush fire.
