Let me repeat that gold nugget at the end.
" Then, go back to 192.168.1.1 and enable the Router Security. "
You can't imagine how many start with a locked down network and lose untold days.

I had a REALLY HARD TIME understanding the setup for a Linksys Wireless Network in my home ? had to call their Tech people WAY OVER YOU KNOW WHERE ? hard for them to understand me and certainly not easy for me to understand them!
Anyways, I learned a lot. I want to share this for those that are frustrated and want to throw the equipment out the window.
The Wireless-G Expander comes setup for NO SECURITY. Most users of Wireless Routers have at least WEP security enabled. In order for everything to work smoothly, the Router, Adapters and Expanders must be ?on the same page? ? Using the exact same SSID and Key. It is very easy to not set everything up the same because Linksys sends very limited (crappy) instruction manuals and their support staff uses English as a Second Language!!
Here are the steps that I took to set up my wireless system?
1. Installing the Router ?
a. Plugged in an Ethernet cable into my laptop
b. Went to linkys.com/check
c. Saved the information on an EXTERNAL REMOVABLE DISK & on the computer which is plugged into the router. The info will be stored in a file your_router_settings.txt
d. Ran NetSet from the Removable Disk on the other computers in the home.
2. Installing the Expander
a. While still hooked to the Ethernet Cable, disabled the security for the router
i. Go to 192.168.1.1 from Internet Explorer
ii. Choose Wireless
iii. Then choose Wireless Security ? disable it - SAVE
b. Plug the Expander into the wall as close to the Wireless Router that you can. Hold the Auto Config button for 60 seconds.
c. Configure Expander
i. Go to 192.168.1.240 ? if you cannot get to this website, your expander is NOT reset ? try unplugging the expander when both lights are BLUE ? leave off for 60 seconds, plug back in and hold the auto config button for another 60 seconds.
ii. Setup the Expander with the information from your_router_settings.txt ? must be exact!! SAVE
iii. Then, go back to 192.168.1.1 and enable the Router Security.
Do not worry if you have to unplug the Router to move it ? the settings are saved!!!
