Monitors, what should I look for when getting one?

Hey guys, I'm looking to get a big monitor (I'm getting squinty eyed from staring at my small alienware screen), but I'm not sure what to choose.

I've never purchased a monitor before so I do not know what I should look out for, there are soooo many choices out there!

Does size matter

I see a few monitors at 24, but there are also a few smaller or larger ones. Does size matter specifically (say I'm watching movies or playing some games on it?)?
