Monitor wont show picture from computer

I just inherited a computer from my great grandfather. I have no idea what kind it is. I have everything plugged into the right ports and everything shows that it has power but my monitor seems not to read the tower's commands because it just stays blank and a little yellow light comes on meaning it is idle yet it is plugged into the tower. I just need to know how to get the picture to show up on my monitor i need help please!!! Any suggestions at all email me at Lifesaver88a@aol.com

Assuming Lifesaver will not come back to read this, perhaps others will, and be warned.

Never give out your email address in forums. There are plenty of web bots out there, searching all forums for email addresses they can use to flood the unsuspecting with spam and phishes.

If you "do" feel the need to give out your email address, disguise it.

Use something like; your.name(but.not.this)@scrubthisisp.com

Make it difficult for the web bots to decipher them.
