Monitor Trouble (Port is loose?)

Sep 7, 2004 7:11PM PDT

I am using Windows ME on a HP pavilion with pentium III processor.
The color on my monitor keeps turning to a shade of purple. When I jiggle the cord/port that connects the monitor cord in the back of the computer, the color returns to normal, but only if i hold it with my finger there. I believe this is an internal hardware problem maybehaving to do with the monitor port not being connected properly to the (mother board?) inside the computer? Please help. Looking at my monitor in a shade of purple is no fun!

Take the cable out of the monitor and look into the end of it and make sure there is no bent over pin in the end of it. Try the monitor on another system, does it still have the problem.

Open the case and reseat the video card (unless it is on the motherboard).

You need to find out if the problem is the monitor or the computer.

Your video card is not rightly seated in your motherboard (if you are using a plug and play board). Check the screws, or try using a glue gun to fix the placement of the board.
If you are not using a plug and play board, then, the soldering of your monitor socket to the mother board has gotten loose ("cold solder problem"). Have it checked and re-soldered if necessary.

Many don't screw the cable in.

Could be a way to not have to hold it in place manually?
