I'm looking to replace my current Dell UltraSharp 2007FP monitor with something in the 24"+ range, or anything that can do 1920x1200 or better, and probably widescreen. Primary uses will be with my game consoles (Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, and GameCube) and as a TV via my Xbox with XBMC, but I might also decide to hook an external tuner to it some day. It will also likely do desktop duty in a few years, so the more connection options the better really. Ideally it will have Composite, Component, DVI, S-Video, and VGA. HDMI is kind of useless to me right now, but it's by no means a deal breaker to have it included.
Right now I'm leaning towards the Dell UltraSharp 2709WFP since it has everything but S-Video, which would only be needed for my GameCube, and I can simply use Composite for that until I get around to getting a Wii, since $60 for a set of component cables is a bit much for that system. However, I am slightly worried about reports of input lag with it. Since it will be used quite a bit as a game console display, I'm not keen on having lag. A little probably won't bother me, since I'm not a big Action Adventure or FPS fan, and I almost never play games online, but I do enjoy an occasional game like Devil May Cry or God of War, and if there's any real delay in the controls it will annoy me greatly.
Viewing angle is another big point for me. I don't like having to mess with the position of the monitor every time I want to lay down to watch something or when I sit back up to play a game, so the wider the viewing angle the better.
Aside from the 2709WFP, what other options are there? I saw a 28" Hannspree at Best Buy, but it looks to be a bit too dark. There's also Samsung's Touch of Color I've looked at, but they don't seem to have the greatest of viewing angles, and people seem to universally despise TN displays. So since this monitor will probably be around for 5+ years (I still have and use a Dell 2001FP I got right around it's initial release) I don't want to skimp on the quality.
Ideal price is $500 or less, but if a compelling case can be made for a more expensive model, I'm willing to consider it.
