...borrowing a friend or family member's monitor and swapping them...The problem you're experiencing could be the graphics card itself or simply a bad monitor..
Eliminate one of those options by swapping in a known "good" monitor. (Yes, I've had monitors go out in less than two years.)
Hope this helps.
I'm running a Dell Dimension 2400 with a 19" CRT Monitor, Windows XP Home Edition.
A couple of days ago as I was checking out CNN's web page, the screen suddenly widened on the horizontal plane. I tried to correct this with the digital format controls, narrowing the screen again to normal size, and encountered the following problem: the icons and text on the extreme right and left of the screen narrow somewhat on the vertical plane, what's round becomes oval and what's square becomes rectangular. This happens on all programs and pages.
I've reloaded XP twice, ditto for drivers, tweaked all the controls imaginable, and still have the problem. The equipment is only two years old.
It's probably something really simple. At least I hope so.
By the way, thanks to all CNETTERS for helping me solve the cursor jumping problem: I got a new mouse!
