If your kybd. has an active "power key" use that. Here's a link for your quest: http://www.madison.k12.wi.us/shorewood/shutdown.htm
I suggest you look into replacing your CMOS battery as well for your system. It maybe the cause of your other problem for, "real-time spyware protection" issue.
My old CRT monitor fried on me yesterday and I was wondering if anyone knew the proper sequence of keys I can use to shut down my PC properly with the keyboard?
I know I can just push and hold in the power button for a couple of seconds. But when I reboot my real-time spyware protection is deactivated. Concerned about security of other PC's on network.
