Question

Monitor doesn't standby after PC shuts down

Apr 12, 2015 12:18AM PDT

I have a T24D391 HDTV as a monitor in extended desktop with another one.
Computer and monitor are connected with a HDMI cable. When i turn off the computer, the monitor doesn't go in sleeping mode: it is still searching for the signal.
I tried with the VGA cable and it works: when the PC shuts down, the monitor goes in standby mode. But for obvious reasons I'd prefer to use HDMI instead of VGA. Furthermore, when they are connected with VGA, the monitor makes a strange noise, like the coil whine.
How can I make my monitor go in standby mode when I turn off the computer?

Answer
Long standing complaint on TV as monitor.

Workaround to date is to use other than HDMI. Not a new complaint but so far haven't heard of any other workaround other than getting a monitor (vs. TV.)

The coil whine alone would have me return it even if in the past it meant I had my video settings a little off.

HDTVmonitor

The screen is called HDTV monitor and it is sold as a product which can be either a TV or a monitor: it shouldn't lack of those functionalities. So are you saying that I have no chance to solve this problem?

Moreover, I discovered another problem: when it sleeps, there is coil whine as well. Is it a problem of all the series or this particular TV is broken and I should return it?

Then you have a reason to return it.

This complaint is not new. As to coil whine, I have to write I've heard that on make makes. Usually adjusting the VGA signal to in spec helps. As there are so many standards and control panels I can't be more specific.

If you feel it's a defect (the HDMI power off issue) and the usual naming the input PC doesn't clear it up or calling it in doesn't find a fix, return for something else.
