Monitor color issue

Feb 15, 2004 8:58AM PST

Hi i have a problem with a monitor. It is a 17" Compaq 1725. It has a promlem where the screen is all pink. There is no monitor gui to adjust colors because it is about 6 years old. I have tested it on multiple pcs and they are all pink. I heard something about adjusting it through the back so any help would be appreciated.

just a guess but it sounds like one of the "guns" (probably the blue one) is dead, which means the monitor is essentially dead. don't try fixing it yourself unless you're a pro at doing so.. - fj

monitors have dangerous voltages inside -- not for the neophyte. - fj

There can be a bent pin in the cable that is causing this, take the cable out of the computer and look carefully in the end, make sure no pin is bent over.

If that isn't it, then it is time to replace the monitor. A 17" like that is replacable for $100-200 these days.

You probably have a color "driver"(chip) gone bad and it really needs repair. While you can possibly adjust if it really an adj. any repair problem will nix that as you got to do that first. Plus, more than likely, unless you know what you're doing you could cause more damage by playing with the "insides" as the adj. is a remove cover and adj. pots. I feel, you'll be better served in getting another monitor as cost to repair isn't cost effective and its old anyways. New or used monitors at low cost are available if shop around. I get used monitors from local computer shops and Sal. Army, Goodwill for low cost if available. Shops like Best Buy and Circuit City, etc. offer reduced prices if you fall into a deal week or offer to buy the "demo" model on display.

good luck -----Willy
