Monitor audio on PB in camera, SONY 8mm HANDYCAM CCD-TR65

How to monitor audio from the camera side of things while playing back? So obvious- but not. Seriously, you cannot?

I use the composite out lead (red, white and yellow RCA plugs) Red and white into a RCA to 3.5mm plug. This is plugged into a FiiO portable headphone amplifier and then to headphones. Works for record and playback.

Thanks, but that' a serious design flaw. Crazy!
One should be able to monitor what one is recording... but there's the difference between pro equip and consumer equip. Thanks.

Monitor

Not really it is more to do with the impedances of the camera output and the headphone. The camera is designed to feed an amplifier so cannot drive headphones directly, you need an amp between the camera and the headphones to make them work properly.
having said that you can get camcorders with headphone outputs, my Canon HV20 has one.

Hmm. Glad to know that. Again, I am just used to equip that allows monitoring.
I just forgot that this did do that.

Many thanks for your clarification. Happy

We have to tap the audio out with a Y connection and use pre-amp or amp as needed. Not exactly trivial but could be cheep to do today.
