General discussion

monitor and graphics display driver

Oct 7, 2009 5:00AM PDT

My husband recently bought and hooked up a new monitor for my notebook and docking station. I can't get the image to diplay correctly. There is a black strip on the left side of the monitor and the Windows Task Bar is over too far to the right to see the time. Any help would be appreciated.

When I try to change the screen resolution, I get the message below:
Invalid Display Settings
The currently selected graphics display driver can not be used. It was written for a previous version of Windows and is no longer compatible with this version of Windows.
The system has been started using the default VGA driver.
Please contact your hardware manufacturer to get an updated driver or select one of the Microsoft provided drivers.

The monitor functions at 1920 x 1080 and my current settings are 1280 x 800 when the resolution bar is slid all the way to the right on Adjust Screen Resolution.

I tried going to HP to download the newest driver, unsuccessfully. What am I doing wrong?

Hardware:
HP Pavilion dv2000
Samsung 2494HM
HP Notebook Quickdock

Software:
Windows Vista Home Premium
Intel graphics media accelerator driver: Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family

You could try...

using the horizontal positioning control on the monitor to move the display.

When I touch the button for the monitor menu (on the monitor) it shows up on the screen but the mouse arrow and the arrow keys control the screen behind it. I can't select anything on the monitor menu.

It sound like you are getting only half of the screen.

Maybe try changing the resolution and/or refresh rate of the laptop display. If that don't work then I guess you have to come up with the correct driver somehow. Good luck.
