Monitor

Nov 21, 2004 1:49AM PST

Once I set up my computer I will be using a 15 inch crappy flatscreen that we got with a dell. I want to eventually replaces this monitor with a 17 inch flatscreen monitor that is better. I was looking into the flatscreens and it looks like the max resolution you can get from a 17 inch flat screen is 1280 by 1024? Is it possible to get a higher resolution one without increasing the screen size. I also want to make sure it has good screen refresh and contrast. I am trying to get something that will at least display 1600 by 1200 so my video card is not that limited by the screen. Any suggestions? I would like to try to spend around the 300 or under mark.

PS: I would get a CRT screen but I don't have room on my desk.

I don't know this one but I really like the Viewsonic VX910 which is 19" and 16ms response. The current local (after rebate, and I hate the rebate game) is about $500. I know this is steep compared to what you want to spend. I go out and look at monitors before buying them and they don't always compare well in stores but I have seen this one side by side with others at both CompUSA and Best Buy and the Viewsonic VX series has a great picture and a nice frame. It also has a DVI input which is IMO the way to go with LCD. My opinion has always been to never skimp on the components you physically interact with. These are mouse, keyboard and monitor. You can put together a screamer of a PC but, if it does not look and feel right while using it, bragging rights about performance mean little. Regards.

LCD MONITORS AND UNSHIELDED SPEAKERS

Guess the title sums it up. Of course the CRT is ruined if in proximity to regular unshielded speakers but...how bout an LCD? Would seem to be a different beast. Thanks for any response.

What's best?

What's the best flat CRT under $200? What's the best flat LCD under $300? I'm still debating if I want to spend the extra $100-$150 for a LCD. Thanks.
