Molly Wood - Annoying Voice

Nov 23, 2009 1:57PM PST

I'm a regular listerner to BOL. I like the show alot.

The only problem I have is with Molly Wood. Her voice is annoying and she seems to TALK ALOT. She's very saracastic and if you add the biting saracasm with the annoying voice it's like listening to nails scratching down a chalkboard.

Can CNET get her off BOL? I don't care if she does other CNET stuff, but BOL is the one CNET podcast I like listening to whenever I have the chance.

Give her a set of PJ's and she'll want a snuggle. Soon there will be cuddles and YOU will be serving up breakfast.

Autotune?

Are you saying Autotune Molly Wood? THAT would be th coolest thing ever. Although maybe a little annoying after a while.

We're just having fun, and at no one's expense. I am not harping on Molly or anyone else here, just banter...

Makes me less sad about not being a regular listener anymore.

Totally agree

The sarcasm really annoys the hell out of me. And whats with her jotting down stuff on some paper, it's internet show, what could show possibly need to jot down at the last minute? cnet seriously needs to change up its newscasters.

It's that damn Molly Wood...

She's so HOT right now! If Molly is like nails scratching down a chalkboard, then I need to get to a classroom immediately - cause I'd like to hear that all day long. I'm sorry if Molly seems "sarcastic" - maybe it's because she's "quick witted" - or maybe she's "smarter than your average bear". I could listen to Molly chatter on about politics, social trends, or even high scores on Xbox. She's an amazingly fun personality who doesn't take herself too seriously and is dedicated to journalistic integrity.

I listen to voice auditions every day in my job...

... and let me tell you, she does not have an annoying voice. It could be that you just don't like what she's saying. I like her best, though, when she launches in to her "nerd" voice.

Molly Wood - Superperson!

Listening to (and watching) Molly is one of the highlights of my week and it's a shame she's leaving Mailbag.

She's not so bad
Feb 18, 2010 7:57AM PST

I like her sarcasm. The only thing that bugs me is when she talks about stuff that she *clearly* knows nothing about, but she thinks she does, makes you kinda feel embarrassed for her. But no one's perfect. Look at the positives -- she does a pretty good job at being a female journalist in the tech industry. Geek chicks bring in the crowd.

Mollyless BOL

Can't technology solve this? We need to have a way identify Molly's voice in the podcast, and strip it out. It'll also make the podcasts much smaller, and inversely more useful.

We can have the dude that creates the pod-casts post a version with each voice on a separate track, then we can just turn off a particular track.

Or if that's not possible, there can be some audio filtering software that can do it.

Perhaps some with mad audio edit skills can locate such software or audacity plug-in. Maybe we can have Moly do the research.

RE: Molly Wood - Annoying Voice

I sad to hear Tom Merritt is leaving BOL. He definitely had a lot of knowledge about the tech industry.

If anyone was to leave, I wish it would be Molly Wood. She turns the show into a high school pajama party instead of actually talking about tech stuff. I think it's because she has very little knowledge of tech and simply thinks having a congenial personality is enough to keep her employed. She's horrible and if she was a young blonde woman, she'd be unemployed.

Guess you don't listen to TWIT
Apr 21, 2010 10:13AM PDT

Leo, that runs TWIT, said that he was trying to get both Tom and Molly, and Molly chose to stay at Cnet. It will not be the same without both of them together, but I quit listening to BOL shortly after Molly left the podcast. I like Molly and maybe some off the "nerds" don't like her impression.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one

Maybe her voice reminds you of someone annoying in your life. I find her voice annoying because it reminds me of two different annoying women I know.

Today is the first time I stopped listening to BOL mid episode because of her voice. The show is boring when she's not in it, yet I can't stand her voice. Ce la vie!

Had to stop listening
Nov 1, 2010 11:47PM PDT

It's been three shows ago since I stopped subscribing to BOL because of the way she talks. TNT fills the daily tech news gap left by BOL. Sarah Lane doesn't have a great voice, but it's not bad enough for me to turn it off.

Molly's voice is great when she's serious. But when she's "cool" her voice has a type of high-school-cheerleader quality, or similar, to it that I find very annoying because it reminds me of two people who have that same quality in their voice.

Sorry Molly. You are great, and smart, and pretty, but it's not working out. It's not you. It's me...

Molly
Oct 23, 2010 4:57PM PDT

The worse thing about Molly is when she says "REALLY?!" in that annoying sarcastic tone, sometimes over and over. And she seems to make an effort to make her voice more and more scheechy every time, as if it gives that word more impact or something. Also how she laughs half way into her own sentences, which are never funny anyway.

REALLY?
Nov 2, 2010 12:08AM PDT

Yes! That sarcastic shrill is very annoying. With some voice lessons, she could get rid of the "cool" high school cheerleader shrilliness and tones and snickers and sarcastic tone. She's fun and smart and I miss her opinions now that I don't listen to BOL.

Maybe she's too at home in the show and forgets she's in a show with an audience. There are some annoying voice tones and noises in my home voice that I don't use in my work voice.

Really?
Nov 16, 2010 4:50PM PST

This is silly and stupid. Molly Wood is an amazing journalist who has the amazing ability to cut through the BS and see companies and their products for what they really are. Her posts and blogs are funny, interesting to read, and this is a big for me... I actually get her humor and sarcasm and I find it funny, I've been listening to BOL for almost 4 years and I have never found her voice annoying. All of the BOL hosts, both past and present are extremely good professional journalists, and if they were just rabitting on about random stuff during the show, they wouldn't be doing their job.
Love you Molly and everyone else on the BOL crew!
