Molly... just get the 5G iPod already...

Mar 7, 2006 10:54AM PST

Its got the best design, the best interface, the best "user experience," the most content, the most of everything ever.

So what if its an iPod -- IMO, being different to make some kind of statement isn't worth having an inferior product.

Wow the irony of that just hit me... now to "Think Different" you have to buy a non-Apple product. o_0

Agreed
Mar 7, 2006 12:54PM PST

I encouraged Molly to do the same. Get the thinner 30 GB iPod for video and the gym. If you want it also as a storage device for transferring files, go with the 60 GB. But even at the gym, the 60 GB will be fine. It's still thinner than my second generation iPod and even that works just fine strapped to the arm.

The seamless integration of iTunes/iPod just can't be beat.

When I'm in the gym with my 20gig 4G...
Mar 7, 2006 12:59PM PST

I just leave the iPod in the cupholder of the tredmill/stationary bike. Works fine for me.

If you're going to be using it mostly for running/cycling outside, why not just get a Nano?

I agree
Mar 7, 2006 1:29PM PST

I agree, I upgraded to a 60 gig iPod and I love it and I will probably get a nano sooner or later for the gym. But molly as my good friend Chuck D said...Fight the Power!!! Just because we have all become shills for the mothership out in Cuppertino doesnt mean you have to, get the creative, get a samsung, LEAD A NEW REVOLUTION

NO GET THE VISION M

I'm on it... got the Vision:M and love it. Not sure why everyone freaks out about 1/4'' thickness difference (my bag/pocket can handle the difference).

PS - can anyone tell my why my sig still says unknown when I'm logged in? I know n00b question...

Values?
Mar 8, 2006 1:46AM PST

Mollys values are to always have the second best?

- Collapse -
I disagree
Mar 8, 2006 1:49AM PST

I wouldn't get at harddisk based player if your moving around alot, that puts a real strain on the harddrive. And whats the real difference between those two players anyway? I think she should get that cute little square one, and wear it as a necklace or something.

But really, get the iAudio M3.

These alternative players
Mar 8, 2006 2:30AM PST

So, what's the name of the software that ships with the iAudio M3 and Creative Zen that launches when you plug your portable music player into your computer and automatically updates your podcasts.

Seriously, I'm curious to know if the software that ships with these things does that.

-Kevin S.

PS the real reason to get an iPod is so you don't have to keep calling what you buy a "portable music player." You can say "iPod" and not be wrong Wink

True... True...
Mar 8, 2006 2:46AM PST

I hear you on that. As a Creative owner, my typical conversation goes as follows.

Me: "...yeah, I'll just load it on my Vision:M"

Other person: -Perplexed Stare-

me: "It's another type of video iPod"

Other person: "Oh, cool"

.....Annoying

I prefer 'ambulatory acoustic wave generating apparatus'.

So to answer your question: Drag 'n' drop?

But honestly, wouldn't it be quite boring if everybody had an iPod, and no one dared to stand out?

- Collapse -
Well if everbody had an iPod...
Mar 8, 2006 5:09AM PST

...I'd spend a lot less time trying to convince people's computers and MP3 players to cooperate, or teaching the people who "dare to stand out" how to use them.

- Collapse -
Okay.
Mar 8, 2006 5:35AM PST

True, but its just boring to hear everybody recommend the iPod. Molly actually takes time to think if there could be a good reason to buy a iPod, other than the reason that everybody else have it. I highly doubt that many people take time to see if another player could be more right for you.

Everybody else has one for a reason!
Mar 8, 2006 6:15AM PST

They're just the best!

Gareawgh!!!

- Collapse -
So your saying that windows XP is best?
Mar 8, 2006 6:24AM PST

Since the vast majority has that OS?

- Collapse -
Thats false logic.
Mar 8, 2006 7:49AM PST

Thats not how logic works. Go to school.

- Collapse -
No, it's syllogistic logic.
Mar 8, 2006 10:17PM PST

And why shouldn't she try others out before settling?

- Collapse -
I never said she shouldn't try out others before buying.
Mar 8, 2006 11:30PM PST

I said the iPod is simply the best and if you're buying another product you're getting the second best.

And relating to your cute little fanboy argument:

Everyone buys an iPod because its the best.

Everyone buys XP because its the most marketed and the most supported.

There can be two different reasons for why two different products command a majority market share. Don't be a *******.

- Collapse -
But you can't claim that it is the best without references.
Mar 9, 2006 12:28AM PST

Since there are other MP3 player on the market, you can't unequivocally claim it is the best, without testing the others. And okay, my logic is a little flawed, but that's why it is syllogistic.

And really, aren't you just a big a Apple fanboy?

- Collapse -
Cool it!
Mar 9, 2006 2:26AM PST

No name-calling, please, or we'll have to end this discussion of iPods vs. Creative for good, and I'll be buying a Dell DJ. There are, indeed, good reasons to carefully consider every piece of technology you buy, because they're not insignificant purchases -- they cost a lot, and you have to live with them every day. No MP3 player is perfect, period, which is why it's a hard decision. Let me be clear: I am NOT having an Apple vs. not-Apple discussion with myself, and despite my desire to live free of DRM, I know that I'll run into restrictions with any platform -- that's the nature of choosing a platform. So, what I'm actually having is a "features" vs. "features" discussion. Let's try to keep the parallel forum discussion on the tech tip, and not the personal preference tip, ok?

My thankyas.

Kev: They either use...

...WMP with that stupid "PLAYZ FER SHER!" protocol thing, or they use proprietary software that never works and usually winds up trying to steal defaults for MP3 files.

Didn't figure they were as well integrated
Mar 8, 2006 6:40AM PST

...but wanted to ask those who had them.

Unfortunately, a lot of people make it this Mac vs. PC thing because Apple happens to be the maker of the iPod but the reason they sell so well is the no-brainer way that the hardware (iPod) integrates with the software (iTunes).

If some people place open-DRM above no-brainer use, then by all means, they should go for one of the other brands. I just hope they know what they are and are not getting when they opt for another player.
