General discussion

Moderators red ''M'' missing

Oct 4, 2005 1:28AM PDT

for several days now. Not a biggie but wondering if this is a general occurrence or if I have a malfunction of some type. This was first noticed after I was playing with Mozilla Adblock but don't know if its related. Adblock is since removed.

Hmmm the only thing that I can think of is if you block

images in Firefox or are you using Mozilla, which I'm not too familiar with. Not too sure what setting is causing this.

The red 'M' are appearing as normal to me in IE and FF.

Anyone else not seeing the red Moderator "M"?

Fine here...

I'm using Firefox 1.0.7 and Adblock and see everything I want to, including the red ''M.'' However, I'd like to note that when I had previously uninstalled Adblock, then restarted Firefox, the images that were previously blocked did not reappear. I'm assuming there was/is a glitch in uninstalling the extension completely. I'd try reinstalling Adblock, then under tools->AdBlock->preferences uncheck ''enable adblock.'' With any luck that will bring the images back, thus enabling you to uninstall the extension again without repercussions. You can also search the list for ''http://www.cnet.com/i/hlp/redM.gif'' (as well as ''http://www.cnet.com/i/hlp,'' ''http://www.cnet.com/i,'' and ''http://www.cnet.com'') and delete them if found. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to backup your bookmarks, delete your profile, and let Firefox create a new one for you.

Hope this helps,
John

Like you I am using Firefox 1.0.7 and I think it is the Adblock extension that is giving me fits. Simply do not understand all the enter workings... think I screwed some things up. Neither can I use the forum emoticons... only makes a double space in the text message.

I searched the list for links you furnished but did not find those particular ones... did find others containing cnet and deleted them... nothing that I can find is blocked in cnet. Have not attempted creating a new profile. Having only the red ''M'' and emoticon issue I may just leave well enough alone for the time being.

Thanks for your input and suggestions.

How do you reverse that?
Oct 4, 2005 5:02AM PDT

jonah (johnny on the spot) jones, I am using Firefox 1.0.7 but never intentionally blocked "M" images from CNet but would be interested how to reverse this in case somehow it was triggered.

Thanks!

Your suggestion did the trick... I looked earlier after viewing your image but did not find the ''Block images from cnet.com'' Just now came back a re-tried it and there it was big as life. Unticked and seems to be fine. Grin Thanks!!!!

Maybe you used Adblock and blocked images from a URL that was part of the 'M' icon?

Perhaps, but I cannot find it...
Oct 5, 2005 9:32AM PDT

So I deleted all URL's that had any reference to CNet from Adblock. Then I disabled and uninstalled Adblock and the anomaly continues in both situations.

Maybe I have to live without the red ''M'' and also emoticons that do not work in the forums... most likely these are related.

Thanks for your observation.
